This is probably a very excellent item, but I ordered it for my mother who is 77 years ancient and it was just to complicated for her. Amazon.com was very gracious and took the item back with no hassels. they are fantastic to do business with.

- Excellent embroidery with some terrible features
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought this to replace a Brother machine that failed after 15 years. This machine’s embroidery is superior to my ancient machine. More stitches and the stitches are rendered better. The action is smooth (but it’s the noisiest machine I’ve ever had). I was pleasantly surprised with the construction of the machine, I was expecting cheap construction for such an inexpensive machine. There are a few terrible features. The machine is not very responsive to the presser foot. I’m used to a machine stopping and starting directly with the presser foot. This machine goes a few stitches after the pressure is completely off the foot. And the needle always returns to the up position, so every time you need to turn a corner or do something where the needle must be down, you have to manually crank it a half stitch. The ‘reverse’ button is in a awkward place and there is a really annoying ‘needle threader’ that hangs directly to the right of the needle. This can’t be removed or went off to the side, so it just hangs in your way. It would have been a much better design to just include a cheap small threader in the storage box for the people who can’t thread a needle by hand.
- Ok, but needle threader is a problem

This is an ok machine, especially for light sewing. But, like several others, the hook for the Auto Needle Threader is missing from mine so that feature does not work. Very disappointed that such a feature that Singer touts as a major item for their product would be missing from some machines. This was one of the reasons I bought this model. Singer will not get my recommendation for this sewing machine. - User friendly and versatile! Perfect choice for beginner or intermediate!

This machine is very user friendly.
I am a beginner and have been using this machine constantly since I got it 5 months ago. I have had no problems. It works well on all the light and medium weight fabrics I have tried (cotton to canvas to thick denim…and quite a few layers of each). I’ve even used it to do simple machine quilting.
The automatic threader makes setup super quick.
The manual is clear and helpful.
It takes some time to figure out how to adjust the length of width of the stitches, but it does provide you with a lot of different options.
For the money, I reckon this is a fantastic machine!!!

Haven’t used the machine much yet, but satisfied so far. I have limited sewing skills and ambitions and this machine meets my skill level without too many extra bells and whistles. It is as described in the product listing. The only improvement in the listing I could suggest is a more detailed description of the attachments included. I had to go the manufacturer’s site for that and was still not entirely confident that all attachments would be there – they were. - Singer 7442 sewing machine

I bought this sewing machine for my teenage daughter. She likes the fact that, unlike my machine, this one is simple to thread. It has a lot of decorative stitches, many of which will probably never get used. So far it’s done well on medium to light weight material. Have not tried heavier stuff, like denim or upholstery fabric. I would have given it five stars if it had come with a carrying case. As it is, it gets four.

Only 1 speed – 60 mph
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This machine is probably fantastic for simple purposes. I bought it to make a kite, which I thought was pretty simple. But it has two major flaws that make it really worthless to me:1) No way to sew slowly. It has a gas pedal of sorts. If you push it down 1/4th of the way, the machine makes a loud humming noise, but does not engage. Push it down half way and it hums angrily, but still doesn’t engage. Push it down a fraction of a millimeter lower and WHAM it engages and yanks the fabric out of your hands quicker than you can feed it, scrunching fabric up, and sewing all over the place. I had to do most of my sewing by cranking the manual wheel on the side so that it would go slowly enough to be useful.
2) no way to adjust lower thread tension. I had no thought I even cared about something as obscure as this, the lower tension is set at a value that should pretty much take care of things and you adjust the upper tension. But as the project wore on the lower tension got loser and loser until the sewing machine became useless. Lower tension that is too lose means lots of thread hanging loosely on the under side when you end stitches – no matter how I set the upper tension.
So I don’t recommend this sewing machine if you plot to sew anything with it. I’m sure it’s fantastic for general utility uses like fixing loose buttons and sewing extra pockets into your favorite pants or whatever.

Case is too large for the average machine

The case is wel built. It is much to large for the average size machine but it has plenty of storage so you can pack things around your machine so it will be safe. - Brother ES2000 77 Stitch Function Computerized Free Arm
Excellent machine for price

I was looking for an inexpensive sewing machine to sew craft items, and to sew through thick fabrics. This machine was a replacement for a machine that would have cost more to repair than to replace. I also wanted to try a computerized model, but just needed basic stitches. The top loading bobbin is certainly a bonus, and the machine’s light weight is also a plus. I still have not figured out how to use the self-threading function. The machine does struggle a bit with the thickness of fabric layers I am sewing, but it still gets the job done. - Brother XL2600I 25 Stitch Free Arm Sewing Machine with Multiple
Incredible machine for the money.

This is my first sewing machine, and having managed to survive 60 years without one, I had more than a small concern that I would be able to figure out how to use it. Not to worry — this thing is simple to use, amazingly simple to thread and wind bobbins. and it’s very powerful. I sewed together thick sheets of plastic film, and it had no problem punching through it. Provides very precise control over stitch length. Since this is the only sewing machine I have used, I can’t compare it to others, but it may be the only one I will ever need. - Brother XL2600I 25 Stitch Free Arm Sewing Machine with Multiple
Basic Mechanical Sewing Machine with 25 stitch free-arm sewing
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is your basic mechanical sewing machine. The picture they already show is what you get. It’s light weight and simple to use. It comes with three all purpose needles plus all the extras they list. I bought some heavy weight needles for jeans and had no problems sewing them. It has reverse stitching for locking in the stitch. (Though you do need to hold down the button it’s not a problem). If you just want a mechanical sewing machine that does the job and is affordable this is it. I use it for hemming; fixing; and sewing curtains and other tasks as they crop up. It has a stitch length dial that is pretty basic. Also a width dial that mostly positions the needle to the right; center; or left.
Now This machine’s foot pedal is tender to the touch I work it in my socks so I can regulate the speed better. Excellent lighting also.
The only terrible I would say about this machine is that the tension dial. It is picky beyond belief. It takes patience to find the right number or close to one for different sewing material. I just mark it off so I don’t have to look for it again. Go right to my marks and I’m set to go. ( Took one star off because of this).
Now of course if your a professional seamstress or someone who sews a lot and is looking for perfect stitching you better off with the new computerized sewing machines. This sews like machines of the past which is no problem for me. Yes that means occasionally you get tangled in the bobbin area but it never effects my sewing as I’m done by then and just cut out the mess and continue. Price is excellent; plus I applied for amazon’s credit card which made it approx. a $67 dollar buy and you can’t beat that.
